Learning outcomes
Lectures on the subject of modern Czech history. The course of lecture deals with new developments in the academic debate.
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development of book culture in the Czech lands and Central Europe from the second half of the 15th to the beginning of the 20th century. The interpretation mainly sheds light on the beginnings and development of Czech book production from the end of the 15th to the beginning of the 20th century. It will focus on book printing and bookbinding terminology as a specific feature of the craft and field. Examples such as selected printers from Prague and other localities in the Czech lands will explain topics such as financing of publications, technical processing of books, social impact of increased reproduction of information (censorship, printing bans, prosecution of authors and book publishers). At the same time, the graduates of the course will gain an overview of the basic library literature and the usability of old prints as a multifaceted source of historian's research.
Prerequisites
Fulfilment of previous study obligations, knowledge of the elderly in Czech history.
