1. week 1. CLOTHING COMFORT DEFINITION AND CLASSIFICATION 1.1. Principal definition of psychological, sensorial and thermophysiological clothing comfort. 1.2. Components of psychological comfort. Marketing aspects of certified clothing. 1.3. Individual aspects in clothing comfort evaluation. 2. week 2. MECHANICAL AND THERMAL SENSORIAL CLOTHING COMFORT: 2.1.Psychosensoric principles of human perception. Stephen's law. Skin sensors. Moisture perception. 2.4.Non-orthodox methods of FOM. Design of a simple and portable instrument for the measurement of friction properties of fabrics. Integrated Hand Testers. 2.5.IBH Hohenstein method of sensoric comfort evaluation. Relation for total clothing comfort. 3. week 3. THERMOPHYSIOLOGICAL CLOTHING COMFORT - PRINCIPLES: 3.1. Fundaments of human thermal physiology. Human body as a thermal engine. Aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. Energy storing and distribution in a body. Basal metabolism. Metabolism at hard physical work. Temperature set points for a body and temperature limits. 4. week 3.2. Thermal comfort for various levels of heat generated in a body. Body response in limit situations. Sweating glands and their control. Sweating level as the function of skin and core temperature. Equation of thermal equilibrium of a human body. Insensitive perspiration, perspiration by respiration, principal perspiration and their limits. The effect of accumulated heat. 5. week 3.4. Fundaments of heat transfer between human body and environment by conduction, convection and radiation. Fourier, Newton, Stephan-Boltzman and Wien laws. Boundary conditions, bd. layers 6. week 3.5.Fundaments of water vapour transfer between human body and environment. Fick's laws. 7. week 3.6.Fundaments of wetting and wicking of textile fabrics. Contact angle, adhesion, capillary forces. Theory and definition of moisture absorptivity. 8. week 3.7.Simple thermal model of a clothed human body. Practical values of thermal resistances of clothing (in Clo and Tog.). The effect of ventilation and body movement on body thermal loses. 9. week 4. THERMOPHYSIOLOGICAL CLOTHING COMFORT - DESIGN: 4.1.Parameters of yarns and filaments which affect the thermophysiological comfort of fabrics 10.week 4.2.The effect of composition and mechanical structure of shirt fabrics on appearance and complex comfort properties of shirts. 4.3.Theory and design of ever-dry double-layered fabrics containing PES / PP special section fibres. 11. week 4.4. The use of Phase Change Materials in protective clothing and a new system of evaluation of their thermal insulation efficiency (time of double increase of the effective thermal resistance). 12. week 4.5.Textiles changing their absorption of infrared radiation heat according to the radiation level. Fibres with high solar energy absorption and low far IR energy emission. 13. week 4.6. Application of semi-permeable membranes and coatings on fabrics THERMOPHYSIOLOGICAL CLOTHING COMFORT - EVALUATION (LAB TRAINING): 1. Measurement of thermal resistance and of warm-cool feeling of fabrics both in dry and wet state by means of the ALAMBETA computer-controlled device. Introduction of thermal absorptivity. The effect of structure, composition and finishing on fabric thermal absorptivity. Standard values.

Definition of clothing comfort. Psychological comfort. Sensorial comfort and its evaluation. Skin sensors of comfort feeling. Survey of mechanical parameters which influence the fabric hand. Thermophysiological comfort, definition, survey of evaluation of its transient and stationary parameters. Heat transfer in nature and its application in comfort studies. Thermpophysiological functions of human body as thermal engine. General equation of heat balance between the human body end enviroment. Moisture transfer in capillary systems. Specific properties of textile materials in respect to clothing comfort. The effect of structure and composition of fabrics on their thermal resistance, warm-cool feeling and vapour permeability. Semi-permeable membranes. Functional garments. The use of fabric and garment comfort parameters in textile promotion and marketing. Evaluation of comfort parameters of fabrics by means of simple methods applicable in small mills and specialized shops.
