Course content
Course programe. 1. The theme and status of demography. The history of demography. 2. Lexis diagram. The indexes and measures in demography. 3. Time in demographic analysis, population structure 4. Mortality, standardized mortality 5. Models of mortality. 6. Life Tables 7. Natality and Fertility 8. Abortion rates 9. Marriage, marriage tables 10. Divorce rate 11. Characteristics of natural reproduction, population stability 12. Migration 13. Population forecasting and projections

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing)
  • Class attendance - 42 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 50 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Fundamental demographic concepts and processes, mainly analysis of reproductive process.
Knowledge of basic measures and indexes used in demography to determine population levels. The ability to apply life tables especially in life insurance.
Prerequisites
Mathematics -- the secondary level, basic elemets of statistics and probability

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined examination

Requirements on credit: Term paper, active participation in seminars. Requirements on exam: Knowledge of problem solving, concepts and basic ideas.
