Course content
Lectures: 1. Spreading and cutting manufacturing process: Characteristic of spreading process, method spreading of materials, spreading equipment in clothing industry, method cutting of materials, circular cutters, straight knives, band knives, automatic cutter. 2. Sewing process. Sewing machine needles for the clothing industry. 3. Geometric sewing needle shapes (cross-sectional shape, body, tip point). The surface finishes of the sewing needles. Sewing needle stress. 4. The history and development of sewing machines. Model sewing machine, construction of a sewing machine. 5. Cyclogram. 6. Types of sewing machines. Factors affecting the quality of the seam. 7. Lockstitch machine, chain stitch machine, multi thread chain stitch machine (types, characteristics, parameters of the sewing machine, seam formation, use). 8. Overedge chain stitch machine, flat seaming machine, covering stitches machine. Types, characteristics, parameters of the sewing machine, seam formation, use. 9. Feeding systems of sewing machines, type of feed systems. 10. Automation, automated sewing machines and sewing machine drives. 11. Special sewing machines: buttonhole sewing machine, button sewing machine. Sewing machines for imitation of a manual stitch, for invisible sewing, single-purpose units. Sewing machines for sewing leather and artificial leather, sewing machines for sewing membranes and foil. 12. Embroidery machines. 13. Theory of shaping and pressing. Hand iron, steam generators, presses. Machinery pressing: ironing machinery, carousel and form finisher. 14. Systems of transport, logistics. Practice: Introduction, basic information, literature, occupational safety, the conditions for obtaining credit. Selection of sewing needle. New trends of sewing needles: characteristics, properties, use, work with catalogs SCHMETZ, GROZBEKERT. Stitch formation: stitch class 301, 401, 504, principle. Sewing machine characteristics and selection, practical exercises. Sewing machine with automatic elements characteristics and selection, practical exercises. Analysis of clothing: stitches, threads, needles, sewing machine, work with catalogs of sewing machines. Calculation of the consumption of sewing thread by stitch type. Cyclogram - practical exercises. The pressing process, basic conditions. Excursion. Credit test Credit

Learning outcomes
Subject provides students with basic knowledge of the correct use of clothing machinery and equipment in the production of clothing: spreading and separation of clothing materials, cutting of materials, sewing process and ironing and shaping process. The aim is to acquaint students with the principle functions of cutting, sewing and the principles of primary and special automated machines. The course also focuses on the perspective of a new development machine sewing needles, machines and equipment in the clothing industry with an emphasis on ensuring high quality products. Theoretical teaching is complemented by the practical work of students on selected special machines. Attention will be paid to the practical applications of machinery and equipment, including practical proposal stitches and seams for specific products. Students will acquire basic knowledge of transport systems and logistics in apparel production.
Students will acquire knowledge from the area of this subject.

Credit: Credit test - min. 60%. Exam. Combined: Written and oral part.
