Course content
Topics of lectures: 1. Basic concepts, principles and obligations in the protection and improvement of the environment and its components. Global climate change. Causes, current manifestations and consequences of climate change. New opportunities for the future development of society. Sustainable development management. Concepts and objectives of sustainable development. Sustainable development reporting. 3. Waste and circular economy. Sustainable use of resources, waste prevention and waste management. 4. Environmental policy and its principles. State environmental policy of the Czech Republic. 5. Normative, economic and voluntary environmental policy instruments to protect and care for the environment. 6. Sustainable business. Opportunities and threats in the context of sustainable development. Trends in sustainability. The exercise will discuss current topics related to sustainable development, such as: global environmental issues, eco-friendly living, circular economy, the impact of activities and products during the life cycle on the environment, current issues of environmental protection. At the end of the semester there will be a presentation of semester projects.

Learning outcomes
The subject introduces students to the principal theoretical findings in environmental policy and their practical applications.
The course introduces students to the main theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of environment and sustainable development, conservation and sustainable use of resources, environmental policy and instruments.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Oral presentation of self-study

The condition for graduation is the preparation and defense of a semester project on a given topic and passing a written exam. The course includes lectures by experts from practice. Attendance at lectures by experts from practice is mandatory for full-time students, while attendance at other lectures is not mandatory.
