Course content
1. Educational reform movement - historical overview and educational background. The new school and a new education - movement of the new schools. Alternative educational systems. 2. Rural educational institutes - Lietz, Wyneken, Reddie, Neill and the current concepts of rural educational and boarding schools in Germany and in England. 3. Waldorf education - Rudolf Steiner's personality and his pedagogical work. Anthroposophy and theosophy in Waldorf education concept. Waldorf pedagogy basic principles, analysis, overview. Education in Waldorf pedagogy. Pedagogical and didactic analysis of teaching in Waldorf schools. Teacher in the concept of Waldorf education. Current Waldorf education in the Czech Republic and in Europe. The practice of selected educational institutions operating according to the principles of Waldorf education - example of Waldorf kindergarten Turnov, Waldorf elementary school Semily, Waldorf lyceum Semily. 4. Educational system of M. Montessori - philosophy of Montessori's pedagogical system. The concept of the child in pedagogy of M. Montessori. Educational practice of pedagogy of M. Montessori. The importance of educational material in Montessori education. Space education in Montessori education. The practice of selected educational institutions operating according to the principles of pedagogy of M. Montessori - example of Montessori kindergarten and elementary school in Jablonec nad Nisou. 5. Jena plan and education - Petersen and his teaching background, Jena plan and its pedagogical resources, didactic of Jena plan, organizational principles of the formation of Jena plan. 6. Activity models of teaching and education - Adolphe Ferriere, Jean-Ovide Decroly, Célestin Freinet, Georg Kerschensteiner.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Observation

Learning outcomes
The course introduces the theoretical and practical level of basic concepts and foundations of reform educational movements in its historical perspective and alternative educational concepts in current educational discussion.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Alternative educational concepts 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational practice
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of general pedagogy.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment

Regular pedagogical observations in schools with elements of alternative pedagogical concepts. Reflection and critical analysis of hospitations. Presentation of hospitation reflection. Creation of a proposal for an educational short-term program and work activities with regard to alternative pedagogical concepts.
