Course content
Psychological sciences and the subject of their research: importance for education. A nomotetic and idiographic approach to the examination of the human psyche (advantages x disadvantages). Psychology conceived as a scientific discipline dealing with behavioral manifestations and their conditionality; psychology as a science of thinking and experiencing. Holistic x reductionist approach to man. Main psychological trends and their view of the human psyche (important representatives: influence on the development of science). Psychological disciplines, their aims and methods. Determination of human psyche - biological, environmental and socio-cultural; inner and outer. Perception and cognition (sensation, perception, imagination, perception disorder); attention, imagination, memory (types of memory); thinking, language, speech. Cognitive processes. Thought operations. Problem solving. Emotions, emotional disorders. Will and self-control. its states and failures. Me and self-concept; a sense of integrity and continuity. Personality psychology - personality structure; different approaches to exploring the structure and development of personality. Temperament. Extraversion and introversion. Personality emotionality, stability vs. lability. Abilities and interests. Intelligence: types of intelligence and their measurement. Motivational side of personality. Motive, goal; instincts, needs, interests, aspirations; physiological, psychological and social needs as motivational factors. Character - relational attitude characteristics of personality. Dynamic concept of personality. Learning and its prerequisites; reflexes, instincts (meaning in humans); indentation, classical conditioning, firming, extinction, operative conditioning, observational learning, heuristic learning, guided learning. Social interaction and communication (basic types of communication). Development of mental functions; developmental changes throughout life. Influence of socio-cultural environment on the development of speech and thinking. Socialization and its important factors; social processes: influence on personality development. Stress , influence on organism, adaptation, resistance, resilience; consequences of severe or long-term stress. Mental disorders and diseases; causes, possibilities of positive influence and prevention, the role of education. Ethical problems in psychology; research of psychological phenomena and human behavior. The importance of significant psychological theories for pedagogy; deep-dynamic personality concepts; instinct vs. socialization and culture (Freud, Adler, Jung); influence of socioeconomic and psychosocial factors on personality in the concepts of E. Fromm, K. Horney; attribute and factor theory, importance for education; will to meaning at Frankl; Maslow's hierarchy of needs; tendency to self-actualization in Rogers.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
Students learn the basic terms from the area of general psychology and the psychology of personality. The course shows basic principles of psychological science, methods and functions of psychology. Students are tought about the character, temperament and other specific aspects of human personality. They learn about deprivation, frustration, stress, interpersonal conflicts and so forth.
After completion of the subject student will be able 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of the course 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral theses 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process 5. to be motivated for continuous learning in the field
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of general psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Acquiring the credit is conditional on at least 75% attendance at the seminars and submission of a written analysis on the possibilities of pedagogical utilization of psychological knowledge acquired from at least two studied publications. The balance for each publication should be processed at least in the range of 4 standard pages. The study of Drapel's text (Overview of theories of personality) is required. The second book in the field of general psychology will be selected from the works of the following authors: Helus, Hill, Kern et al., Nakonecny, Plhakova, Říčan. Students must demonstrate the ability to critically think the whole text, so only selected chapters can not be processed. Studying and processing of the 3rd and other books is positively evaluated in the exam. The selection of text for writing a balance sheet can not be done from the auxiliary literature; this is mentioned only for possible uncertainties during self-study. Acquiring credit and proving the knowledge of psychological issues in the range of syllabus. The exam consists of a professional discussion on specific topics from the syllabus and the possible application of knowledge in the context of direct educational activities. Students will bring copies of their seminar papers to the exam.
