Course content
|
After the course the student will be able to: - understand the importance of positive phenomena (hope, love, gratitude, mindfulness and openness to all aspects of life...) for improving the quality of life of individuals and communities - articulate and state the nature and importance of the conscious and responsible approach to one´s own personal and professional growth - express basic specifics of own culture in chosen aspects - understand the influences of culture on individuals and society - discuss pros and cons, collaborate with international peers on scholarly selected topics through on-line communication in English language - think critically over basic intercultural differences

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this practical and student'centered course, is to support students' personal growth: to develop better self-awareness and self-knowledge of students, to strengthen positive aspects of their personalities, to encourage their motivation and ability to cope with the demands of their jobs in the field of pedagogy after graduation. Active classroom discussion and debates of students from two different cultures (Czech Republic and USA) will promote complex thinking about issues and problems inherent in practical application of the knowledge and skills gained during the lectures. All of this can significantly contribute to the well-being of students useful in teaching, counseling, therapy or social care. Lessons are held together with a group of students from the USA via the Internet. Students collaborate on assigned tasks using email communication. This form of learning allows a direct exchange of knowledge and experience with people from different cultural background. Because very few student have the opportunity to travel to the USA, this subject makes these intercultural encounters possible. Students from two participating universities will learn about diverse cultures and teach others about their own. Online conversation among students will also help to develop their language skills.
