Course content
1. Media and communication (mass communication, media and their functions, printed and electronic media, media impact on children and their development, socially pathological phenomena associated with ICT and the Internet environment). 2. Concept and form of realization of cross-curricular theme Media education (nature and development of media education, media education as a cross-curricular theme, expected outputs and contents of media education at primary schools). 3. Determinants of media education (media and lifestyle of the family, media as a partner of education, attitudes of pupils, their parents and teachers to the media and media education). 4. Specifics of media education and digital technology Utilization in primary school (psychodidactic issues of using media and digital technology in primary schools and development of media literacy of school-aged pupils). 5. Methods and forms of media education at elementary school (implementation of media education in the school educational program, methods of receptive and productive activities in the context of media education at elementary school, media education and key competences, media education and information education).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints with the objectives and content of the cross-curricular theme of the Framework Educational Program for Elementary Education. The student will be provided with knowledge and skills related to media communication and work with the media. He will understand the importance of the media as a socializing factor, a mean of creating attitudes and opinions, shaping lifestyles and influencing individual behavior in society. Course will lead to a critical assessment of the positive and the risks associated with the use of media by children of younger school age and the implementation of ICT as didactic means in primary school education. Students will be acquainted with the effective procedures and methods of educational work with pupils in the area of media education and the development of media literacy of pupils.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Media education 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has knowledge of primary education and psychodidaktics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Interview, Oral presentation of self-study, Written assignment, Test

Participation in seminars, performance of tasks, presentation, active participation in discussions on specialized topics based on critical analysis of literature, seminar paper, test.
