Course content
1. Basic methodological foundations of scientific knowledge in pedagogy. The subject of scientific research in pedagogy, specific pedagogical research field. 2. Basic research, applied research, action research: their meaning, context, work with data, outputs. 3. Different paradigms of quantitative and qualitative research approaches in the educational science. 4. Selected research methods and techniques, with a focus on the quantitative concept research (observation, interview, questionnaire; construction of research tools). 5. Joint research - the benefits of the use, options, problems, risks. 6. Research project in the thesis (objectives of the research, research problem, research file, data collection, data interpretation, data presentation, pedagogical paper). 7. Possibilities of obtaining the research data, research findings, international investigations, journal sources, yearbooks, databases. 8. Ethics in educational research and its specifics.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments)
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Home preparation for classes - 14 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 12 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the basic themes of pedagogical research with emphasis on the research specifics of the content field of the science of education.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Methodology of pedagogical research 1 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational practice
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of methodology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written assignment, Test

Active participation in lessons, preparation of semestral paper (analysis of published research report, thematic search for research), written test.
