Course content
1. Developmental psychology. Place of developmental psychology in the system of psychological sciences; importance for pedagogy. Developmental theories. 2. Determination of human psyche - biological, environmental, socio-cultural, self-regulation; internal and external determinants. Developmental changes. Principles of development. Age specificities. Developmental line. Bio-psycho-social interdependence of developmental changes. Milestones and stages of personality development - periodization. Acceleration in development. Different concepts of periodization of human personality development. 3. The theory of development periodization. Psychosexual development according to the theory of S. Freud. Psychosocial development in different periods of life according to E. H. Erikson theory. 4. Theory of periodization of development. Development of cognitive processes in individual periods of life according to the theory of J. Piaget. Development of moral reasoning and behavior in particular periods of life according to the theory of L. Kohlberg. 5. Prenatal, neonatal, infant and toddler period - developmental traits. Frustration, subdeprivation, deprivation; sensitization. Symbiotic relationship of the child with the mother; Bowlby's concept of basal safety; Winnicott's concept of holding; separation anxiety, anaclicticc depression. The importance of transition objects in terms of emancipation and separation. Understanding basic lifestyles; sibling positions and their importance for the child's psychosocial development. 6. The development and importance of children's toys in different periods of development. The development and significance of tales in different periods of development. 7. The development and importance of children's drawings in different periods of development. 8. Development of speech and communication skills in different periods of development. 9. Pre-school age. The importance of a wider family; the importance of preschool education and residence among peers. Disorders in the psychosocial development of preschool child. 10. School maturity and readiness. Socializing function of the school and the children's team. 11. Younger school age: developmental tasks, age specifics, specifics of the period. The role of the teacher in the process of developing the personality of the pupil of the lower and upper secondary school age. 12. Secondary school age. Prepuberty. Acceleration of developmental manifestations. 13. Adolescence; puberty; bio-psycho-social interdependence of developmental changes in adolescents; the specificity of the transitory development period; common causes of psychosocial disturbances in development and their manifestations. 14. Early adulthood. Acceptation of parental role. Developmental tasks of mature adulthood and old age. Productive aging and prevention of pathological development.

Learning outcomes
The course provides orientation in the developmental tasks and peculiarities of particular periods of ontogenesis, focusing on the period of childhood, the period of transition to primary school, the period of the younger and the middle school age and then the prepubescent and pubescent age. Topics of lectures are studied in more detail in follow-up seminars.
After completion of the course student will be able: 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Developmental psychology 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral paper 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational process
Prerequisites
Student has basic knowledge of general psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written assignment, Test

Active participation in lectures and seminars. Studying and developing a critical analysis of recommended scholar texts. Developing the characteristics of the personality of the selected elementary school pupil. Passing a written test and passing an oral exam.
