Course content
1. Institute of surrogate family care 2. History of surrogate family care 3. Current trends in surrogate family care in the Czech Republic 4. Surrogate family care legislation in the Czech Republic 5. Institutes of surrogate family care 6. Types of surrogate family care care of persons other than parents, adoption (irrevocable, international adoption), foster care (foster care for a transitional period), guardianship 7. Mediation of surrogate family care 8. Status of socio-legal protection of children and their interaction

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to show students the importance of family environment in upbringing of child, with an emphasis on psychological needs of child and possibilities of their implementation in biological and surrogate family. Students acquire basic knowledge of legislative processes and procedures in implementation of placement of a child outside of biological family. Students get acquainted with issues of adoption and education of child growing up outside of biological family. Students get socio-psychological skills, which creates preconditions for their own personal development and growth.
After completion of the course student will be able 1. to understand the content of prescribed curriculum of Surrogate family care 2. to reflect the topic critically 3. to demonstrate specific intellectual skills gained in a course in writing of a semestral thesis 4. to apply gained knowledge in educational practice 5. to be motivated for continuous learning in the field
Prerequisites
Student has knowledge of pedagogical psychology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written assignment

Study objectives: 1. active participation on the lecture 2. participants will perform all given tasks 3. reading of relevant academic texts 4. writing a semestral academic paper 5. successful accomplishment of institutional objectives of the course - attainment above the minimum requirements for the award of credits
