Course content

1. - 2. The importance of daylight in architecture, physiology of vision, basics of photometry; 3. - 4. Assessment of buildings in terms of daylight contribution according to ČSN EN 17037; 5. - 6. Windows, shading systems and systems for light distribution in buildings; 7. - 8. Assessment of daylighting in buildings - work with specialized software; 9. - 10. Direct solar radiation - graphic solution for insolation of residential buildings; 11. - 12. Other factors in lighting - visibility, glare, sustainability, visual comfort; 13. - 14. Electric lighting, light sources and their spectrum, integrative lighting.

Learning outcomes
|
The course deals with the problems of daylighting and solar radiation in buildings, its importance to the building users (hygienic, economic, environmental). Students learn to assess and optimise buildings or sets of buildings in terms of sunshine and daylight. They are acquainted with the requirements of standards and the methods of proving them in territorial decision-making and construction proceedings. As part of creating a quality indoor environment, they assess selected lighting strategies in the context of other factors - ensuring thermal comfort, etc. In the seminars, the students process the assessment of the building in terms of contribution of daylight and insolation according to ČSN EN 17037. They use printed graphics aids and validated computer programs. Part of the course is the practical measurement of lighting technical quantities.
The student will be independently capable to orientate oneself in questions of day light in buildings. Physiology of sight, criteria and limits for daylight systems.
