Course content
Lectures 1. Tall buildings - structures and loadings 2. Multi-storey buildings 3. Single-storey buildings 4. Large-span buildings 5. Foundation conditions and soil 6. Foundation - geological investigations 7. Bracing pits 8. Shallow foundations 9. Deep foundations 10. Historic foundations 11. Structures connected with terrain -waterproofings 12. Expansion joints - structure solutions 13. Staircase I. - terminology 14. Staircase II. - structures Exercises: The contents of the exercises are based on the lectures.

Learning outcomes
The first series of the core lectures of building construction. Relationship between direct loads and load-bearing structures of buildings. Basic division of building structures, structural systems of multi-storey and hall buildings. Multi-storey buildings. Excavations and foundation structures. The main part of load-bearing structures: vertical and horizontal structures. Lectures: 1. Loads on buildings and its response in load-bearing structures, direct loads on buildings 2. Construction systems of hall and multi-storey buildings. 3. Engineering geological surveys, groundworks, field works, excavations 4. Construction pits and their securing 5. Shallow foundations of buildings 6. Deep foundations of buildings 7. Structures above the foundations (substructure) 8. Pedestal constructions, constructions connected to the building at the terrain 9. Vertical load-bearing structures I and II 10. Horizontal load-bearing structures I and II 11. Expansion joints 12. Staircases
The first of four-semestral course of building structures. The student will be able to orientate oneself in load bearing structures of multistory buildings.

Oral exam, Practical demonstration of acquired skills

Requirements for the credit: A form with records by the instructors on consultations provided Requirements for the examination: Attendance at a minimum of ten lectures (a condition the student must meet in order to be admitted to an examination) Knowledge of the curriculum covered in the lectures is required for the examination
