Course content
|
1. Principles of scientific work, the meaning of research in educational sciences. Working with professional literature. Principles of creating a professional text (research, compilation, citation, ethics). 2. Basic, applied and action research. Information databases and sources in educational sciences (specificity of the thematic field). Teacher and pedagogical research. 3. Possibilities and risks of quantitative research (selection of research files, construction of an instrument, entry into the field, data collection and statistical processing, interpretation of results). Examples of quantitative research, findings. 4. Possibilities and risks of qualitative research (typological selection, collection, processing and interpretation of data). Examples of qualitative research findings. 5. Mixed research design, its demands and possibilities. Examples of research findings of mixed research. 6. Basic research methods and tools (questioning, observation, case studies, content analysis), specificity of the research field. Issues of interpreting the obtained data. 7. International pedagogical research (PISA, TIMSS, PIAC, TALIS). Teacher and pedagogical research.

Learning outcomes
|
The course acquaints students with the basic principles of scientific work and with the procedures and rules of creating their own scholar text, diploma thesis. The main topic of the course is pedagogical research (the specificity of research in educational sciences, possibilities, risks, research approaches, data interpretation, ethical level of research).

Oral presentation of self-study, Presentation of student research activity
Preparation of a seminar/semester paper (analysis of a published research report; thematic research research; small research project).
