Course content
|
1. Culture - definition of the concept, basic theories of culture, influence of culture on socialization and on the educational process. Formation of individual - group - national - cultural identity and their significance for individuals and society. 2. Multicultural reality of the contemporary world and Europe - development, present, migration and interpenetration of cultures in a historical perspective and in the present. Multicultural reality in the Czech Republic - foreigners, asylum seekers, minorities and subcultures. Relations between the majority and minorities in contemporary society. Legal status of minorities, foreigners, asylum seekers and other groups. 3. Intercultural communication - perception, specifics of verbal and non-verbal communication, communication etiquette, issues of prejudice and stereotypes, racism and xenophobia. Development of intercultural sensitivity and intercultural competences. 4. Educational practice in schools in the Czech Republic with regard to the representation of foreign pupils, members of minorities and subcultures. Integration and inclusive concepts. 5. Child/pupil with a different mother tongue - specifics, methods and forms helping his/her adaptation to school and to educational requirements. 6. Methodology, instructions, ideas for own investigation of multicultural reality in a selected workplace (school, school club, leisure facility). 7. Methodology for creating one's own program with multicultural themes for primary school pupils. Examples of good practice - knowledge and experience with the application of multicultural education methods abroad and in the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces students to the multicultural reality of contemporary society, focusing on the specifics of working with children and pupils with socio-cultural differences. Emphasis is placed on the integration and inclusive concept of multiculturalism and on the awareness and development of intercultural competencies.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Practical demonstration of acquired skills, Oral presentation of self-study
Active participation in exercises. Study of professional literature. Implementation of one's own investigation of multicultural reality at a selected school. Preparation of one's own program with multicultural themes.
