Course content
|
Thematic Areas: Media and Media Communication: Mass communication, media and their functions, print and electronic media, the influence of media on children, their development and upbringing, and social pathologies associated with ICT and the internet environment. Concept and Forms of Implementing the Cross-Curricular Topic "Media Education": The essence and development of media education, media education as a cross-curricular theme, expected outcomes, and content of media education in primary education. Determinants of Media Education: Media and family lifestyle, media as a partner in education, and attitudes of students, their parents, and teachers towards media and media education. Specifics of Media Education and Use of Digital Technologies in Primary Education: Psychodidactic aspects of using media and especially digital technologies in primary school teaching, and developing media literacy in younger students. Methods and Forms of Media Education in Primary Education: Integration of media education into the school curriculum, methods of receptive and productive activities within media education in primary schools, media education and key competencies, and media education and information literacy.

Learning outcomes
|
The course acquaints with the objectives and content of the cross-curricular theme of the Framework Educational Program for Elementary Education. The student will be provided with knowledge and skills related to media communication and work with the media. He will understand the importance of the media as a socializing factor, a mean of creating attitudes and opinions, shaping lifestyles and influencing individual behavior in society. Course will lead to a critical assessment of the positive and the risks associated with the use of media by children of younger school age and the implementation of ICT as didactic means in primary school education. Students will be acquainted with the effective procedures and methods of educational work with pupils in the area of media education and the development of media literacy of pupils.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student's performance analysis, Interview, Presentation of acquired knowledge via paper, Test
Attendance at practical sessions, completion of ongoing assignments, presentations, active participation in discussions on professional topics based on critical analysis of literature, seminar paper, and test.
