Course content
Culture: Definition of the term, fundamental theories of culture, and the influence of culture on socialization and the educational process. Formation of individual, group, national, and cultural identities and their significance for individuals and society. Multicultural Reality of the Contemporary World and Europe: Historical and contemporary perspectives on migration and cultural interaction. The multicultural reality in the Czech Republic, including foreigners, asylum seekers, minorities, and subcultures. Relations between majority and minority groups in modern society. Legal status of minorities, foreigners, asylum seekers, and other groups. Intercultural Communication: Perception, specifics of verbal and non-verbal communication, communication etiquette, and issues related to prejudice, stereotypes, racism, and xenophobia. Development of intercultural sensitivity and competencies. Educational Practice in Czech Schools: Addressing the presence of students from foreign backgrounds, minorities, and subcultures. Integration and inclusion concepts. Children/Students with a Different Mother Tongue: Specific needs, methods, and approaches supporting their adaptation to school and academic requirements. Methodology for Investigating Multicultural Reality: Instructions and suggestions for conducting independent research in multicultural contexts within schools, after-school programs, or leisure facilities. Methodology for Designing Multicultural Programs for Primary School Students: Examples of best practices and insights from applying multicultural education methods in both international and Czech settings.

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the multicultural reality of contemporary society, focusing on the specifics of working with children and pupils with socio-cultural differences. Emphasis is placed on the integration and inclusive concept of multiculturalism and on the awareness and development of intercultural competencies.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Interview, Systematické pozorování studenta

Active Participation in Practical Sessions Engage actively in all exercises and discussions during the sessions. Study of Academic Literature Analyze and reflect on relevant professional literature related to multicultural education. Implementation of an Independent Investigation of Multicultural Reality Conduct a research project focusing on the multicultural environment in a selected school. Development of a Multicultural Program Design and prepare an educational program addressing multicultural themes, tailored to the needs and context of the selected school.
