Course content
1. Education and democracy - an introduction to the issues. 2. School and civil society (pupils' participation in school life, democratic principles and values in everyday school life). 3. Tolerance, democracy and the internal life of the school. 4. Education against racism, education for tolerance (preparation and implementation of student educational projects). 5. Totalitarianism and education - education (leadership and dictatorship as a counterweight to pluralistic democracy; historical experience with totalitarian systems). 6. Witnesses of the past - student projects.

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the current pedagogical professional discussion on democracy and education as well as with the historical context of the given issue. In the foreground of the module is the activity approach, the creation and realization of educational project on selected topic according to the Framework Educational Program for Elementary Education (democracy, tolerance, totalitarianism, democratic methods of conflict resolution) intended for primary schools.
