| Course content |
|
The aim is to provide coherent and comprehensive information on the basic characteristics of the Czech language, with a focus on orthography. Topics: Introduction to the subject. Classification of the Czech language within the language system, its characteristics, graphic aspects. Development of the written language, orthography, types of spelling, punctuation and diacritical marks. Writing i, í, y, ý in the roots of native words, in the prefixes vy-, vý-, in suffixes and endings. Syntactic spelling of i, í, y, ý, agreement of the predicate with the subject, agreement of the attribute with the noun. Writing bje, vje, bě, pě, vě, mě, mně, writing consonant clusters, prepositions and prefixes s, z. Writing loanwords and foreign words, word boundaries in written text, abbreviations and symbols. Capitalization. Punctuation in simple sentences. Punctuation in compound sentences. Current spelling issues. Typographical rules, special features of written language. Summary of issues. Discussion on the topic. Student presentations
