Course content
1. Current issues of determining and defining special educational needs - competences of the teacher, special educator, cooperating institutions, legislative context. 2. Current trends in the education of talented and exceptionally gifted pupils and students. 3. Current trends in the education of pupils and students with a different mother tongue, cultural identity and inclusion. 4. Current trends in the education of pupils and students with mental health risks, cooperation between families, schools and social and community institutions. 5. Current research issues in special education and special educational needs research. Transferability of comparative research models from abroad to the Czech environment. 6. The role of education in the process of destigmatization of people with special educational needs. 7. Multidisciplinary cooperation in education of people with special needs. Awareness raising, work with the public and public opinion. Social responsibility of educational institutions.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence, Students' self-study

Learning outcomes
The aim of the discipline is to introduce and discuss current issues in the field of education of pupils and students with special educational needs. Learners will work with sources of information in English that reflect current developments on the topic abroad. Learners will also be encouraged to think critically about the possibilities of comparing and replicating foreign models and ways of working in the Czech environment. Current issues in the education of people with special needs are at the same time questions that have been reflected on for a long time, knowing that it is never possible to give satisfactory and final answers.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis

The student continuously completes the assigned tasks according to the teacher's instructions. The student prepares credit work.
