Course content
Lectures: 1. Definition of basic concepts related to the subject 2. Methodology of alternative and augmentative communication, principles of its use 3. Historical development of alternative and augmentative communication methods 4. Alternative and augmentative communication in relation to speech development 5. Alternative and augmentative communication for people with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and speech difficulties 6. Alternative and augmentative communication for people with mental disabilities and people with autistic spectrum disorders 7. Alternative and augmentative communication as a means of educating individuals with communication impairments. Seminars: 1. Classification of alternative and augmentative communication systems 2. Examples of individual systems, training principles and use 3. Picture communication system VOKS 4. Facilitated communication, basal stimulation 5. Alternative and augmentative communication via a personal computer 6. Supporting an individual's family with serious communication problems when introducing and using alternative and augmentative communication methods 7. Educational and social system and its support for individuals using alternative and augmentative communication

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 30 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 32 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Students will get acquainted with the general principles and methods of using the means of alternative and augmentative communication. They will acquire basic communication systems of alternative and augmentative communication in connection with the communication needs of certain groups of individuals with disabilities.

Student's performance analysis, Written assignment

Students work out seminar paper and they must be active within the coloquium.
