Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction to addictology: addictology as a trans-disciplinary field, study field and qualification. Terminology, science and research in addictology. 2. Addictions, their prevention, cure and aftercare as basic fields of addictology and its intervention. Craving, tolerance, addiction as "the monkey of diseases". 3. Legislation, organization and institutional aspects of addictological practise. System of the care of the addicts, case management in addictology, trends in addictology and cooperation with education institutions. 4. Mental health disorders caused by the addictive substances: actual intoxication, harmful use, addiction syndrome, amnestic syndrome, residual and psychotic disorder. 5. Specific issues in addictology: addiction to processes, children and the youth in relation to addiction. Drugs in schools. 6. Forms and methods of prevention of the mental health disorders caused by the drug abuse. Tools of the cure in relation to the individual qualities of the target groups. 7. Harm reduction - Harm reduction and Crime reduction programs in the Czech Republic. European net for the social inclusion and health in relation to the drug users. Primary prevention in schools. Seminars: 1) Experts in the Czech and world adictology, their research and results, documents in adictology. 2) Mental health issues in terms of adictions, acute intoxication, harmful using, addiction, psychotic disorder, amnestic syndrome, residual disorder. 3) Theories of addiction: genetic, endogenous, enzymatic, psychological and environmental. 4) Drug policy, international context. 5) Forms and ways of prevention in drug abuse. Addiction therapy in terms of various target groups - gambling, kids and youth (motivation, Life skills, family therapy, community etc.). 6) Forms and ways of prevention in drug abuse. Addiction therapy in terms of various target groups - women, women-mothers, victims of crimes, people in jail (motivation, Life skills, family therapy, community etc.). 7) Harm reduction in conection with alcohol abuse. Harm reduction in jail. Global situation in Harm reduction.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is to give basic information about addictology as a trans-disciplinary field. Students learn basic terminology, the issue of addictions, prevention, cure, and aftercare.
