Course content
|
Lectures: 1. Ethics - introduction, terminology, morality, social sense, legacy, etiology, good and evil in the social work context. 2. Philosophical background of ethics - goodness, Christian roots of morality, goodness in philosophy Sókratés, Augustin, Kant, Patočka, aj.), modern and post-modern society. 3. Psychological premises - human moral development, sociability, empathy, character, motivation etc. 4. Prosocial qualities of people - altruism, helping in the context of personal qualities and experience, professional priorities. 5. Professional roles - partner strategy of helping, paternalism, competencies, power in social work, accepting differences. 6. Ethics in institutional and home care - moral principles in relation to protecting human authonomy, early care, institutional care for the clients with learning difficulties, palliative care, shelter homes etc. 7. Chapters from ethical - dilemmas in thanatology, right to live and right to self-determination. Interruption, transplantation, palliative care. Seminars: 1. Ethical codes - working with the texts (Ethical Code for Social Workers, The rights of the Patients, etc.). Critical analysis of the codes. 2. Issues of moral values - social and cultural and historical context, humanity society, subjective and objective aspects of the quality of life. 3. Moral qualities test - personal qualities, experience, demanding life situations and coping. 4. Moral dilemmas - texts, videos, the risks of helping, morality, legality. 5. Human rights - application to social work - the right to self-determination, empowerment of the client. 6. Crisis response - the meaning of life in the context of crisis, sensitive life situations, accepting demanding life situations (shock, aggression, hope etc.). 7. Ethical dilemmas - social work with people with oncological diseases, mental retardation, violence, dying.

Learning outcomes
|
The discipline is about critical thinking aplyied in moral professional attitudes in social work and it is theoreticaly based on philosophical backgroung of altruistic behaviour, on ethical terminology. As a result, student is able to aply the critical thinking in the process of solving ethical dilemas.
