Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction - the subject of pedagogy, importance of pedagogy, basic pedagogical disciplines, multidisciplinary relations, methods. 2. Foundations and historical development of pedagogy - foundations of education, middle age, renesance, J. A. Komensky, pedagogical philosophy of the 17th and 18th century, personalities in pedagogy in the 19th century, theories in the 20th century. 3. Modern pedagogy (eduction reality, education process, education constructs etc.). 4. Education and its agents - terminology (e.g. education, education goals, features of education), teacher, educated person and their interaction, education methods nad principles. 5. Education process - the role of the teacher and the pupil, pedagogical skills and competencies, teacher as a complicated profession, outcomes of the education process. 6. Education system of the Czech Republic - school as an institution, school and its functions in the society, school system in the CR, education policy. 7. Alternative schools - terminology, forms and methods of alternative education, Dalton schools, Montessori and Waldorf schoolrs. Seminars: 1. Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence
  • Class attendance - 28 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report) - 16 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 16 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The discipline consists of the information about the broad and narrow perspective of the subject, about its history and multidisciplinary point of view. The students learn basic terminologycharacter of pedagogy as a science, the origins of pedagogy and its development. Students also learn nowadays education system of the Czech Republic including the alternative forms of it. The sense of the discipline is to introduce general pedagogy as a part of the social sciences system.
