Course content
Lectures: 1) Legal definition of mediation as a voluntary out-of-court way of dispute resolution. 2) Factors affecting mediation outcome; mediator competence; forms of mediation; techniques. 3) Application of mediation to various areas of social practice. 4) Possibilities of mediation in imprisonment. 5) Legal definition of probation, content of activity, subject of its realization. 6) Application of probation activity in individual stages of dealing with unlawful act or wrongdoing. 7) The use of probation in conditional release with supervision, penitentiary and post-penitentiary care. Seminars: 1) Basic principles and phases of the mediation process, factors influencing the outcome of mediation. 2) Forms of mediation; techniques to facilitate substantive conflict resolution. 3) Application of mediation to different areas of social practice, different conception of mediation and role of mediator. Mediation as a technique for conflict resolution. 4) Possibilities of mediation in the execution of punishment. 5) Application of probation in individual stages of dealing with unlawful act or wrongdoing. 6) The use of probation in conditional release with supervision, penitentiary and post-penitentiary care. 7) Probation and mediation - cooperation with state and non-state actors in the content of probation and mediation in the Czech Republic.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
Students will be introduced to the theory of probation and mediation and will be able, among other things, to confront their theoretical knowledge with practice, such as role play, etc., to practice mediation and mediation techniques to facilitate conflict resolution in practice.
