Course content
Lectures: 1. Social work and its definitions. Theoretical pillars of social work. Traditions - historical, cultural, practical and scientifical. 2. Legitimity of social work. Professional ethics in social work. Ethical issues and dilemas. Theoretical and methodology concepts. 3. Basic overview of the theories and methods of social work: psychodynamic, neo-behavioural, cognitive, humanistic and postmodernism concepts. 4. Psychodynamic concepts and their importance for the theories and methods of social work. 5. Psychoanalysis: ego-psychology, structure of the personality, models of human psychic. Childhood, psychosexual development, ego-defensive mechanisms. Working with a client. 6. The representants of psychoanalytic therapy. The meaning of psychoanalysis for social self-reflection, development of the culture, art, and professional was of helping people. 7. American theories and methods of social work and the importance of psychoanalysis for their development. The diagnostic school of social work, task oriented and functional concept of social work. Therapy and psychotherapy. 8. Diagnostic school of social work. Relationship between the worker and the client. 9. Cognitive and behavioural models as the second theoretical pillar of social work. The importance of psychology and pedagogy. 10. Behaviourism and its main foundations. Social worker as a techaer, the role and meaning of language, communication in social work. Behavioural therapy in social work. 11. Cognitivism and rationalism in social work. Action interpretation and meaning attribution process. Schools of cognitive therapy. 12. Cognitive-behavioural strategies. Solving problems, verifying hypothesis, experiments, training of social and practical skills. 13. Reality therapy by William Glasser. Application of the theories and methods of social work in the penitentiary environment. Total behaviour. 14. Task oriented approach in social work. Social learning, the theory of systems. Partnership and self-confidence for social work. Seminars: 1. Levels and concepts of social work, social work and social services. Ethical dilemas solving frame. 2. Examples of ego-defensive mechanisms. 3. Mary Ellen Richmond Social Diagnosis - working with the text. 4. The ways of social depistage. 5. Methods and techniques of CBT - practical training. 6. Methods and techniques of CBT - practical training. 7. Task oriented approach in social work - overview of research outcomes in the Czech social work.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is to describe the basic terminology to the students, so they can understand the theoretical models and methodology concepts of social work. Students learn present definitons, concepts, principles and foundations of social work as science and profession.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student's performance analysis

Students fulfil their tasks continually via the electronic support of their studies. Students work out their seminar thesis ans undertake oral exam.
