Course content
Lectures: 1. Theories and methods of social work in the context of the third theoretical pillar: humanistic, existential approaches in social work. Social and cultural context. 2. Carl R. Roger and his work - main principles and aspects. The issues of: loneliness, responsibility and freedom. Individual and group forms fo social work. 3. Transactional analysis of Eric Berne and logotherapy - V. E. Frankl. Therapy through interview, existential approach of Niel Thompson. 4. Postmodern theories of social work. New ethical questions and issues. Radical constructivism and the theory of systems. G. Bateson, H. Maturana, K. Ludewig. 5. Systemic approaches in social work. Commission concept and the concept of the holder of the problem. The approach of Ivan Úlehla. 6. Important systemic approaches, the ways of helping. Solution focused brief therapy. Social ecological model of social work. 7. Theoretical relevance of the work of Krakešová and Masaryková. School of sociology in Brno, international context. 8. Social casework and the approach of Marie Krakešová. 9. Present concepts of theories and methods of social work - generalist approach in social work, intercultural work, social work in relation to social services. 10. Anit-oppressive and anti-discrimination approaches in social work. De-institutionalization in the society and transformation os social services. Pedagogy og freedom. 11. Historical basis of theories and methods of social work. Social work history - in terms of the praxis, science, profession, study programme. Czech and international future perspectives. 12. The relation between social work and other scientific disciplines. Multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach towards social problems and issues. Case-management in social work. 13. Present theoretical basis of the Czech social work theories. Present issues of the social work research, target groups and solutions. Critical and radical social work. 14. Personality and professional competencies of the social worker. The importance of theories and methods for the professional social worker. Seminars: 1. Non-directive counselling. Training in groups. 2. Transactional analysis and its use in the process of educating social workers and other professionals. 3. Radical constructivism and the teory of systems - practical examples. 4. Solution focused brief therapy - case study seminar. 5. Anti-oppressive approaches - empowerment of the clients. 6. Present theoretical and research knowledge of the social work theories and methods. 7. Social worker as case-manager - demands, limits, risks.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is to build up knowledge based on the discipoine theories and Methods of Social Work 1 and then to uplift theoretical and methodological basisi of social work for the students, so they can understand the discourse of social work as a science, profession and study programme.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student's performance analysis

Students fulfil their tasks continually via the electronic support of their studies. Students work out their seminar thesis ans undertake oral exam.
