Course content
1. Terminology of augmentative and alternative communication (methodic, principals and main rules, communication in relation to speech development; communication as a mean of educating people with deep communication problems and speech disorders) 2. Supporting or substitution communication systems (classification of augmentative and alternative communication systems; makaton, Bliss, isotypes, social reading; facilitated communication; exchange picture communication system (VOKS); augmentative and alternative communication supported by personal computer)

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence
  • Preparation for credit - 30 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 8 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 22 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Students will learn the general principles, and methods of using the means of alternative and augmentative communication. They will adopt the basic communication systems of alternative and augmentative communication in connection with the communication need of some particular groups of individuals with health disorders.

Student's performance analysis

To gain the credit students must join the seminar and write a semestral thesis. Other demands are specified by the lecturer.
