Course content
1. Main sources of information 2. Funds and services of libraries, internet and electronic information sources 3. The issue of searching and collecting information, formulating questions and expert terminology, online catalogues, electronic databases of the University library 4. Ethics and legislation in the area of working with data and information

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence, Demonstration
  • Class attendance - 8 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 22 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
This course will lead students to the knowledge of funds and services of libraries; of internet sources and electronic information sources (databases) available on TUL. Students will learn about the importance of information in the context of their university studies; about the specifics and principles of work with information when studying university; about the process of collecting and searching information; about kinds of catalogues and bibliographic sets. Students will adopt practical strategies of searching, formulating questions and expert terminology. They will learn the terms of information sources, sources; primary, secondary and tertiary information; information institution, information and library services; electronic sources, database systems; internet, internet searching engines; online library catalogues and electronic databases of the University library. Important issue of this course is the ethical and legal aspect of working with information sources.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student's performance analysis

To gain the credit students must join the seminar and write a semestral thesis. Other demands are specified by the lecturer.
