Course content
Sylabus: 1. Past, present and future of textiles with respect to textile technology and technical textiles. 2. Basic overview of yarn types. Definition of important terms in yarn production. General spinning concepts and technologies. 3. Preparation of textile fiber material for spinning - opening, cleaning, and blending process. Preparation and processing of card slivers, main carding zone of wool type and cotton type carding machine. Application of converter for production of staple fibers by stetch-breaking or cutting of tow. 4. Doubling, drawing and combing processes. Basic concept of roving production. 5. Definition of basic concepts in yarn production mainly for ring and open end spinning system. General overview of plied yarn production. 6. Basic overview of fabric types in relation to their application. Characterization of fabric parameters. 7. Weaving Process. Technological phases used for fabric production. Preparation for weaving, winding, beaming, sizing, warping, threading, drawing etc. 8. Weaving machine. Basic characteristic of weaving machine parts. Shedding formation, weft insertion, beating mechanisms etc. 9. Fabric patterning and weave structure. Definition of basic weaves and their using. Effect of yarn properties on fabric structure and properties. 10. Definition of basic concepts in knitting technology. The principle of weft and warp knitting, the creation of knitted structures. Basic structure elements in knitwear. 11. Characterization of knitwear types. Technologies of warp knitwear productions, various machine types and selection from them for given knitting products. Machine parts of knitting machines. 12. Basic weaves of weft knitted fabrics, ways of interpretation of binding elements, warp knitted wear patterning. Preparation of knitting. 13. Warp knitting principles. Characterization and types of the warp knitted machines. Patterning principles of the warp knitting machine and basic weaves. Practice: Content of practise follows on the lectures - the subject matter explained in the lecture is practised. Seminars will be organized in labs. Students will be solving projects focused on spinning, weaving or knitting technology.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide basic information about textile technologies related to the production of linear and flat textiles. Basic technological operations of spinning, weaving and knitting with regard to the processed material and subsequent application of the final product are explained in respect to the input material and end use of final product.
Students acquire the knowledge about the basic principles of spinning, weaving and knitting and should be able to use the relevant connected basic terminology.

Active participation in exercises and lectures in direct teaching or active participation and fulfilling of activities in distance learning e. g. via elearning. Credit: Handing over homework and passing the knowledge test above the set point limit. Exam: Direct form and distance form - Combine form (Written with posibble oral reexamination).
