Learning outcomes
The aim of the first-year critical seminar will be to acquaint young, emerging artists with literature from their predecessors. It will deal with all written forms of presentation of the artists themselves during the twentieth century, manifestos, theoretical articles, pedagogical proposals, various statements, interviews, memories. It will show some different ways in which the representatives of avant-garde, modern and postmodern art approached writing in a way that will lead the students to their own critical reflection. The twentieth century was a wide period of various artists' own texts. It was no longer sufficient for the artists to express themselves only by their work of art, but they often faced the need to clarify or defend their work before the public and art criticism. Today, it turns out that this is necessarily one of the skills of any artist without which they cannot present their work. From the vast array of documents, the documents chosen will be those relating to the concept of space and movement. From the opening manifesto of Futurism on February 20, 1909, the famous Bauhaus bibliotheca, it will continue to Dimensionism and Kinetic art, then, to further emphasize Latin America, and then to many texts related to minimal, conceptual and environmental art. The task of a student will be to present a manifesto or artistic program of their choice in writing.
