The aim of the Biomedical Engineering course is to acquire the professional competence to practise as a biomedical engineer who is able to practise a non-medical health profession in accordance with the applicable legislation. The study programme is in line with the current vocational study programmes of the European Union countries and corresponds to the basic principles for the education of health professionals. The study is designed as a theoretical-practical whole with a focus on the preparation of a qualified non-medical health professional with a university education in biomedical engineering.

The study programme provides a qualification vocational training. The graduate has the possibility to continue doctoral study programmes carried out by universities in the Czech Republic. Within the Technical University of Liberec, the graduate has the possibility to continue, for example, the doctoral study programme Technical Cybernetics or Applied Sciences in Engineering. As part of specialization education, graduates can specialize in programs such as Clinical Engineering, Perfusiology, Organization and governance in health care.

Graduate profile
|
The graduate demonstrates knowledge in the basic fields of physico-mathematical, biomedical, socio-science and related sciences. The graduate, without professional supervision and without indication to the extent of his professional competence, provides healthcare in accordance with legislation and standards, ensures compliance with the hygienic-epidemiological regime in accordance with public health legislation, makes entries in medical records and other documentation resulting from other legislation, works with the health service provider's information system. The graduate provides information to the patient in accordance with his or her professional competence and, where appropriate, instructions from a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, clinical psychologist or clinical speech therapist, participates in practical instruction in curricula to acquire fitness for the health profession, participates in the preparation of standards, educates individuals, families and groups of people to adopt healthy lifestyles and to care for themselves, participates in ensuring the integration of the new entrant A graduate without professional supervision and without the indication of a doctor organises and supervises the activities of biomedical technicians (according to the applicable legislation he can perform the activities of a biomedical technician). In providing diagnostic and therapeutic care, the graduate supervises compliance with the principles of the correct use of medical devices in accordance with the instructions for use and other guidelines laid down by the manufacturer of the medical device, proposes internal regulations for the handling of medical devices by the health service provider, adjusts the basic programming of the devices according to the specific needs of the workplace or patients in accordance with the instructions for use and other instructions of their manufacturers (does not perform activities related to the operation of those parts of the medical devices that are resource equipment and equipment utilities .

Proof of medical fitness to study and practice the profession of healthcare professional is required under the current legislation of the Ministry of Health.Regulation 271/2012, which lists diseases, conditions or defects that limit or exclude medical fitness to practice the profession of non-medical health professional.

Studijní program poskytuje kvalifikační odborné vzdělání. Absolvent má možnost pokračovat v doktorských studijních programech uskutečňovaných vysokými školami v České republice. V rámci Technické univerzity v Liberci má absolvent možnost pokračovat např. v doktorském studijním programu Technická kybernetika nebo Aplikované vědy v inženýrství. V rámci specializačního vzdělávání se může absolvent specializovat v programech např. v Klinickém inženýrství, Perfuziologii, Organizaci a řízení ve zdravotnictví.
