Course content
Lectures: 1. Theories, methods and techniques of social work - terminology. Methods, methodology. Eclectic in social work. 2. Typology of methods and techniques of social work. Goals, functions, and levels of methods in social work. Techniques and technologies in social work. 3. Counselling in social work: philosophical and historical context. Basic terminology. Counselling as a social service. Typology of counselling, agents of counselling. Phases of counselling process. 4. The examples of complex counselling systems in social work: civil counselling, counselling for the residuary. 5. The family in the context of social work. Family in its historical, cultural, and ethnic context. Demography and sociology of family. Psychological and legal aspects of social work with family. 6. Family typology in the context of the theories and methods of social work. Family crisis and its reflection. Decay or extinction of a family. Reconstructed families. 7. Individual methods and techniques of social work with a family: mediation, case and family conferences, narrative therapy etc. 8. Social work with the elderly: gerontology. Main terminology. Family with an elderly person, old generation. 9. Selected issues of the old age: loneliness, elder abuse and neglect syndrome. Main principles of social work with the elderly. 10. Crisis response. Crisis and the typology. Crisis in different ages, solving crisis. Principles of crisis response. The specialist in crisis response - demands for the competencies. 11. Social work in terms of difficult context: client who does not speak, aggressive client, manipulative behaviour of a client, intoxicated client, suicidal client etc. 12. Social work with a group, group social work. Group social behaviour, group dynamics. Typology of groups, clients for group social work. 13. Social work with a community and in a community, community social work. Main philosophical and historical sources to understand the issue of communities. 14. Community work and community approach. Volunteering. Strengthening democracy. Models and processes of community social work in the CR. Seminars: 1. Professional reflection of social work methods. 2. Counselling and social work in palliative care. 3. Practical example of social work in the family. 4. Validation therapy. Activating senses - specific approach in social work. 5. Effective communication in crisis response. 6. Using games in group social work. 7. Community care for the elderly - the example of the Czech rep. and USA.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monological explanation (lecture, presentation,briefing), Dialogue metods(conversation,discussion,brainstorming), Self-study (text study, reading, problematic tasks, practical tasks, experiments, research, written assignments), Written assignment presentation and defence

Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is to follow the knowledge from Theories and Methods of Social Work 1 and 2. The lectures and seminar reflect individual methodological approaches typical for the present social work.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student's performance analysis

Students fulfil their tasks continually via the electronic support of their studies. Students work out their seminar thesis ans undertake oral exam.
