| Key learning outcomes | The aim of the study programme Applied Geography and Regional Development is to provide students with competencies that will enable them, after graduation, to study geographical phenomena and to interpret?on the basis of data?processes and patterns influencing regional development. Within the scope of the geographical competencies developed, particular attention is paid to borderland issues, examined through a specific model case of the Czech?Polish?Saxon tri-border area, in which the Technical University of Liberec is actively involved. The acquired competencies and practical experience, however, will also be applicable in other problem regions. The desired competencies will be achieved through a solid theoretical foundation provided in the core, profile-oriented part of the curriculum, which will be further developed using project-based learning methods. This approach ensures coherence between theoretical preparation and practical tasks and topics relevant to public administration and the commercial sector, as well as other non-governmental organisations at regional, national, and supranational (i.e. cross-border) levels. To reduce the risk of a potential mismatch between the graduate profile and the evolving needs of professional practice, practitioners will be involved in the organisation of the programme. The programme focuses on teaching modern methods of geographical research applicable as part of comprehensive, multidisciplinary solutions to problems in public administration?particularly at the level of municipalities and regions?as well as in the non-governmental and private sectors. The study programme is primarily based on knowledge from social and economic geography, regional development, and regional geography. Applied methods of geoinformatics and cartography are considered particularly important tools. Key organisational elements of teaching to achieve the stated objectives include: 1. project-based teaching methods in part of the study programme; 2. continuous professional placements with potential employers, complemented by other forms of contact with regional actors and experts. |
