This course provides a framework for the exploration of Western culture within a global context, emphasizing a humanistic approach to sociology, religion, philosophy. The course explores selected challenges to traditional pictures of human nature, social relationships, and political legitimacy which shaped western culture up until the present. Students will develop the skills necessary to evaluate basic concepts of Western culture and philosophy.

Written assignment: It checks the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and understanding to a particular problem within the selected text and convey it in an appropiate form. Oral examination: The student will deal with an assigned topic within a single discipline of his or her choice using the concepts and arguments from the prescribed literature.
